The most famous char koay teow in Jalan Dato Keramat is undoubtedly Ah Leng Char Koay Teow which operates in Restoran Tong Hooi (a coffee shop). The stall opens at around 9.30AM, so don’t go there too early. There is another Ah Leng Char Koay Teow stall that operates in the evening at Lorong Zoo, Air Itam. Both stalls are run by the same family.
Like all the famous char koay teow stalls in Penang, the price of the Famous Ah Leng Char Koay Teow is slightly higher: Normal – RM8.50, Special – RM14. The Normal plate comes with 2 big prawns, while the Special has 4 big prawns and some mantis prawns. I like having the mantis prawns with the char koay teow, it is quite special.
It is easy to find Restoran Tong Hooi along Jalan Dato Keramat (Address: 343, Jalan Dato Keramat, 10100 Georgetown, Penang). The coffee shop is located beside Starview Restaurant.
