Penang Math Platform (PMP) is a Mathematics learning centre setup as part of the Penang STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) initiative. Other centres that were setup under the Penang STEM initiative include the Penang Science Cluster, Tech Dome Penang, Penang Skills Development Centre and @CAT. The Penang Math Platform is housed in Karpal Singh Penang Learning Centre (Pusat Pembelajaran Karpal Singh) in Gelugor, near The Oasis condominium (Address: 1, Jalan Kaki Bukit, Kampung Kastam, 11700 Gelugor, Penang. Tel: 04-3730796). It is officially opened on 4 November 2017 by then Chief Minister, YAB Tuan Lim Guan Eng.
There are many Mathematics-related classes, events, and activities in Penang Math Platform. The Japanese Math Class is offered free for pre-schoolers (5-6 year olds), with the objective of building entry level foundation for Math appreciation and interpersonal communication. The class is conducted by volunteer teachers. Other classes available at PMP include Seriously Addictive Mathematics (S.A.M.), Mental Arithmetic, TeamMathics, GEC Mathematics, and High School Mathematics.
There is also a Study Lab at PMP, a conducive room for people to come in, interact, and study Mathematics. There are computers available in the Study Lab for researching information in the internet.
Overall, the Penang Math Platform (PMP) is a great initiative to create a community that is well versed in Mathematics. This is important, considering that Penang has a vibrant high tech industry, and is sometimes known as the Silicon Valley Of The East.
