Valentine’s Day is a special day not only for couples, but also for friends to cherish their relationships. This year, my wife and I celebrated Valentine’s Day with a nice dinner at The Ombak, Mercure Penang Beach Hotel (Address: 505, Jalan Tanjung Bungah, 11200 Tanjung Bungah, Penang. Tel: 04-3718888 / 04-3718706). The restaurant is located right by the beach, with a nice view of coconut trees and the Andaman sea.
The Valentine’s Day dinner at The Ombak came with a complimentary glass of wine, cocktail or mocktail, which were served first. The dinner proper started with Maguro Takaki (pan-seared tuna fillet, ponzu vinaigrette and micro cress). Then came the soup (butternut squash with poach lobster medallion). And next in line was the lime sorbet.
For the main course, customers were given a choice of either the beef steak or salmon. My wife and I both chose the beef steak, which were pretty good.
The dessert (vanilla honey hazelnut mousse with coconut ice cream), was quite a big portion. It was delicious and not too sweet; very well done. There was also a plate of white chocolates served at the same time as the dessert. The Valentine’s Day dinner wrapped up with brewed coffee or tea.
Overall, the Valentine’s Day dinner at The Ombak this year was pretty good. The food was delicious, and the dining area was comfortable with a nice view of the beach and the Andaman sea. Happy Valentine’s Day!
