Fancy having a meal of Cantonese-style porridge (congee)? Make your way to Kafe Yee Sung Kai Chok in Cintra Street (Address: 36, Lebuh Cintra, 10200 Georgetown, Penang. Tel: 012-4545188). Kafe Yee Sung Kai Chok has a long history operating in Cintra Street, as far back as the 1950s. It is now a 3rd-generation family business, with a shop of its own.
The chicken and fish porridge served here is Cantonese-styled, where the rice porridge is smooth and white. It goes well with the blanched chicken (highly recommended) that can be ordered on the side. The Chinese-style sashimi (raw fish slices) is also a specialty here. Other dishes served are bean sprouts, lettuce and fried crullers (“yau cha guai” / “you tiau”).
Today, Kafe Yee Sung Kai Chok still serves one of the best porridge in Penang. The restaurant is also clean and comfortable, definitely worth a visit.
