The Genting Cafe located at the Island Glades neighborhood probably has one of the best Penang Curry Mee and Chee Cheong Fun hawker stalls in Penang. The Genting Cafe has been here for a long, long time, although the owner has changed in recent years. It is a popular kopitiam (coffee shop) for the locals.

The Penang Curry Mee found here is one of the best in Penang, served with pig’s blood, shrimp, cockles, cuttlefish, “tao pok” (a type of fried bean curd), and a very special chili paste. The taste of the chili paste is what makes the curry mee here special, it blended nicely with the coconut milk curry.

By the way, if you like Penang curry mee also check out the curry mee stalls at Lorong Seratus Tahun and Lee Huat Cafe.

While you are at Genting Cafe, do not forget to also order the Chee Cheong Fun. It is delicious, with the sauce having a nice blend of sweet sauce, shrimp paste, and other secret ingredients. The stall is normally very busy, but they serve customers fast. Depending on the crowd, you may have to queue up to get your Chee Cheong Fun though. Even though the Chee Cheong Fun stall is now manned by foreign workers, they still maintain the good taste. You will see the owner pop up once in a while.
