Having opened in March 2022, Ascott Gurney Penang provides an excellent accomodation option for those travelling to Penang for an extended amount of time. For me, it also provides an additional option for having Valentine’s Day dinner with my wife and kids this year. Couples get to enjoy their Valentine’s Day Dinner either at the poolside or Timur Coffee House. The poolside option was priced higher at RM699 (with wine pairings) while the Timur Coffee House option was priced at RM550 (with wine pairings). We had our Valentine’s Day dinner at Timur Coffee House, which was nice as the place is new, clean and serene. There were flowers and an Ascott Bear waiting for us at the table, a pleasant start to the evening.
It was a 5-course dinner, with Grilled Hokkaido Scallop & Sturgeon Caviar for starters, Canadian Lobster Bisque soup, Mango Sorbet, Oven Baked Cod Fish Papillote / Classic Angus Beef Wellington for the main course and Belgian Dark Chocolate Orange Mousse for dessert. We were also served mocktails and bread.
Personally, I think the food was pretty good, although I feel that the Classic Angus Beef Wellington was a tad too heavy for a Valentine’s Day dinner. The ala carte menu was also made available to us, as we ordered extra food for our kids. Overall, it was a pleasant Valentine’s Day dinner. We enjoyed it very much.
