Looking for a good British steak meal in Penang? Go to Emily’s Steakhouse in the heart of Georgetown (Address: 89, Lebuh Muntri, 10200 Georgetown, Penang. Tel: 019-8396630). The owner of the restaurant, Emily, was born in Penang, and she came back from the UK to open a branch of her restaurant here in March 2019 (The first Emily’s Steakhouse is located in Derby, United Kingdom, since 2007). Emily’s Steakhouse also has a branch in Kuala Lumpur, which was opened in June 2019.

The interior of Emily’s Steakhouse is nice and cozy, with a large swath of exposed bricks on the walls. There is a bar area where drinks are prepared, with a cabinet filled with wines and liquor. The decorative “waterfall” and pond add to the rather unique ambience. I like the design of the wooden stairs too.

The steak is undoubtedly the main course here at Emily’s Steakhouse. There is a good selection of Angus beef with different cuts: Lighter Rump, Rump, Sirloin, Ribeye and Fillet Steak. The famed Wagyu beef is also on the menu, and they are the most expensive. The steak can be cooked to 6 different levels, depending on the customer’s preference: Blue, Rare, Medium Rare, Medium, Medium Well & Well Done. Personally, I am more conservative, so will normally request for the steak to be cooked Medium Well. The steaks at Emily’s Steakhouse are only lightly seasoned, so for some, it may come off as a little bland. I like it this way though, as the taste of the meat is not overpowered by seasonings. There are sea salt, black pepper and vinegar on the table for diners to put more seasoning to their steaks. The steak comes with green peas, salad and fries/chips on the sides, which complement the meat really well.

In addition to steaks, the restaurant also serves other food, including fish & chips, grilled rack of lamb, baked salmon, thermidor cod loin, wild tiger prawns, ribeye steak burger and pasta, just to name a few. I would also give special mention to the Homemade Onion Rings, which is crispy good. Overall, Emily’s Steakhouse is an excellent place to go for food, whether it is for a regular meal or celebrating special occasions with friends and families.
