If you like Chinese herbal soup, the Souper Tang Restaurant at Gurney Plaza is a place that you should try out (Address: Lot No. 170-01-31, Gurney Plaza, Persiaran Gurney 10250 Georgetown, Penang. Tel: 04-3751697). At the time of writing, Souper Tang at Gurney Plaza is its only outlet in Penang, but another branch may be opened in Queensbay Mall later this year (2019). The restaurant chain has many branches in Johor, Melaka, Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, and even Singapore.
Being a Chinese herbal soup expert, Souper Tang’s menu has a good selection of soup dishes, ranging from the regular chicken/pork rib soup to those with more expensive ingredients like abalone, scallop and shark fins. The famed Buddha Jump Over The Wall dish is also on the menu.
Apart from herbal soups, Souper Tang’s menu also features many regular Chinese dishes. So, customers can enjoy a full Chinese meal with friends and family. The herbal paper-wrapped farm chicken is one of their signature dishes.
The dining area is clean, with ample space between tables. The restaurant is normally not fully occupied by customers, so dining here is quite comfortable. I certainly enjoyed eating at Souper Tang from time to time.
