Tam Sui Old Taste Cake Of Taiwan – Freshly Baked Egg Sponge Cake (Ji Dan Gao) In Penang

By | May 12, 2017

The Tam Sui Old Taste Cake Of Taiwan is a newly opened cake shop in Penang, selling freshly baked Taiwanese-styled egg sponge cake (Ji Dan Gao). The words “Tam Sui” in the shop’s name refers to the Danshui Old Street in Taiwan, known for its street foods. I believe you can find delicious egg sponge cake or Ji Dan Gao there in Taiwan.

The shop has an open kitchen concept, where the process of baking the egg sponge cake can be seen. Freshly baked cake will be cut immediately and sold to customers. Since its opening, business has been good. You will normally see a queue of customers waiting to buy the fresh Ji Dan Gao.

The egg sponge cake itself is aromatic and soft. I tried the original-flavored version, it tastes good, and goes well with coffee. The shop also sells cheese and chocolate-flavored versions of the egg sponge cake. I will try those one day.
